The Senior Manager, Media & Public relations leads media relations and public affairs (including social media), developing and executing media strategies that build reputation, share of voice, visibility and stakeholder trust. Working in close collaboration with communications, marketing and government colleagues, this role works plays a crucial role in supporting our mission to advance Australia’s national interests in critical minerals, infrastructure, Southeast Asia, and defence.
Working in a small, fast paced team, this is a role for a media expert with the ability to work across public and private sectors on complex, strategic issues as well as core business communications. This role is also responsible for managing Export Finance Australia’s official social media accounts. About you
- Strengthen EFA’s strategic communications capacity and raise EFA’s profile through a proactive approach.
- Develop and execute effective and efficient media and social media strategies to support EFA and Government priorities.
- Manage media engagement, relationships, pitching and issues response.
- Provide media support and training to executives and spokespeople.
- Monitor media coverage and social media mentions including sentiment, providing insights and reporting.
- Write clear and compelling communications products including media releases, talking points and speeches.
- Manage EFA’s official social media accounts in line with the Communications Policy.
- Design and deliver organic social media activity to strengthen EFA’s brand and positioning.
- Ensure alignment of media messaging with strategic priorities and stakeholder expectations.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- Tertiary qualifications in communications, journalism, international relations or public affairs.
- 5+ years in media relations or public affairs.
- Experience across both public and private sector organisations is highly desirable
- Interest in policy development, foreign policy, national security, economics and finance or corporate affairs.
- Experience advising executives and managing media issues.
- Ability to effectively and efficiently manage social media accounts to achieve communications goals.
- Understanding of the machinery of government and policy frameworks.
- Experience with AI tools and platforms is highly desirable.
- Strong media strategy, engagement and crisis communication skills.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and messaging capabilities.
- Skilled at balancing multiple competing priorities, navigating ambiguity, and aligning communication outputs with broader business needs and strategic objectives.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills with a proven track record in crafting clear, compelling content, especially at short notice
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills, building engagement and confidence with a broad range of stakeholders.
- Evaluates business priorities, applies critical thinking and clearly articulates conclusions.
