EDMS Australia is a Queensland-based mechanical and electrical engineering, fabrication and construction company.
EDMS’ Townsville office provides fabrication and maintenance services for Queensland’s sugar industry, while its Cairns office specialises in mechanical and electrical engineering design and consulting for the sugar and shipbuilding industry.
Sugar mills undergo annual repair and maintenance at the end of every milling season and so these contracts are tendered in November each year, with EDMS’ naval maintenance work occurring regularly throughout the year.
A new opportunity
EDMS won three contracts with Australia’s second largest sugar milling company, Mackay Sugar.
Mackay Sugar exports around 70 per cent of its total production, with its raw sugar, refined sugar, molasses and renewable energy products exported to refineries in South Korea, Indonesia, Japan and Malaysia.
The first of these contracts related to the Mossman mill in far-north Queensland, which involved design, fabrication and replacement of the air heater and dust collector with a new air heater, dry ash collector and associated ducting from the main boiler.
The other two contracts involved the entire retube and rehabilitation of the main boiler and air heater at Mackay Sugar’s Marian mill near Mackay.
EDMS was required to provide performance and warranty bonds under all three contracts, however its bank was unable to help without additional security.
How we helped
Following its bank’s suggestion that EDMS contact us, we were able to help EDMS fulfil its obligations under these contracts by providing the performance and warranty bonds that were required.
This allowed EDMS to contribute its specialist maintenance services to this important Australian export industry.
