Need

To support its continued expansion across South and Southeast Asia, Toll needed additional finance.

Solution

We provided Toll with a $100 million loan to support its growth across Asia, strengthening supply chains regionally and into Australia.

What began more than 130 years ago as a single transport operation has grown into an integrated supply chain partner spanning the Asia-Pacific.

Founded in Newcastle in 1888 by Albert Toll, Toll began with a single horse and cart. Over the subsequent decades it steadily expanded, and by the late 1950s the company was operating across five locations, each with its own truck fleet.

Today, Toll is recognised as a leading transport and supply chain solutions provider in the Asia-Pacific. With dual headquarters in Melbourne and Singapore, the company continues to evolve, supported by an innovation hub in Singapore focused on developing new solutions to enhance transportation and warehousing for its customers.

With Export Finance Australia’s support, we can accelerate investments in infrastructure and innovation that elevate connectivity, capability, and growth across the region.

Connecting Asia and the world

Toll has been building new infrastructure across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand to deepen its presence in the region and enhance trade connectivity that will benefit Australian businesses across the region.

Toll’s expansion across Asia aligns with the Australian Government’s vision for stronger economic engagement with the region as outlined in Invested: Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040.

Minister for Trade and Tourism, Senator the Hon Don Farrell, noted that supporting Toll’s export ambitions helps to strengthen trade connectivity and open up new opportunities in the region for other Australian exporters.

“One in four Australian jobs are trade-related, with nearly half a million Australian jobs linked to trade with Southeast Asia. Toll has been operating in Asia for 25 years,” Minister Farrell said.

To achieve its goals, Toll needed additional finance and reached out to both the Government’s Southeast Asia Investment Deal Team and Export Finance Australia.

We provided Toll with a $100 million loan to accelerate its expansion and unlock further trade opportunities across the region. John Hopkins, Managing Director & CEO, Export Finance Australia said the loan supports the growth of a major Australian company in one of the world’s fastest-growing regions.

“By backing Toll’s expansion into key Southeast Asian markets, we’re helping strengthen trade connectivity and open up new opportunities in the region for other Australian exporters,” Mr Hopkins said.
