The Director, Portfolio Management – Business Financing is responsible for leading a team of account managers and driving the team to achieve successful outcomes in delivering the key credit analytical activity associated with originating and servicing Business Finance customer transactions and managing a portfolio of existing customers throughout the credit lifecycle.

Position description
Strategy
- Assist the National Director with continuous improvement initiatives to support the customer experience, improve deal velocity, and effectively use technology platforms.
- Set high standards of practice, aligned to business objectives, deliver and execute against these standards in relation to credit processes, and identify new opportunities for continuous improvement.
Business Leadership and Execution
- Demonstrate and lead the team to achieve best practice, adapting the approach to credit analysis to balance management of risk with growth and providing good customer experiences.
- Create deal teams to execute complex transactions so that knowledge is shared across senior and junior team members. Ensure more junior team members are upskilled through the deal team process.
- Oversee the credit analysis conducted across transactions for new customers and existing customers, focused on quality credit assessment and enhancing the customer relationship. Develop a sound understanding of what analysis Credit require in credit papers, across origination and servicing scenarios, and ensure these standards are applied across the team.
- Provide support for high-risk customers and complex cases, work with Credit and the National Director and Lending Operations to apply workout solutions. Develop team skills in early warning signs of deterioration.
Culture and Leadership
- Lead, train and coach the team to navigate the credit environment effectively, enhance sound decision-making and create positive customer experiences.
- Lead, direct, mentor and manage the team and their performance, with accountability for ensuring success of the team. Communicate matters across teams efficiently and effectively, with a focus on maximising workflows.
Other
- Contribute to growth aligned to Business Finance targets for existing customers (renewals and new business from existing customers).
- Effective management of escalations, approvals, and delegations for credit decisioning.
- Strong credit writing and relationship skills across the team, as measured by stakeholder feedback, time to deliver credit, time to process adjustments/variations to customer facilities.
- Drive improvement in transactions end to end deal pipeline velocity.
About you
- Degree qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking/Finance or Business and/or relevant technical disciplines.
- 10+ years financing experience across business and/or corporate banking or similar. Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio balancing the interests of customers and the lender.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to successfully lead, manage and coach a team.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and prioritise activities to achieve successful outcomes.
- Deep understanding of loan structuring and credit risk management across a range of financing products.
- Strong financial analysis skills to assess loan performance and perform stress testing. Proficiency in analysing borrower financial statements, cash flow, collateral values, and repayment capacity.
- Ability to prepare high quality credit submission for transactions of increasing complexity. Ability to review and provide feedback and coaching to team members on papers.
- Deep understanding of facility administration including operational risk. Strong understanding of facility and security documentation.
- Strong non-financial risk awareness including KYC and financial crime risks. Ability to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks
- An understanding of how systems and processes interplay across the core analytical and operational lending activity.
- Strong credit analysis skills, understanding of complex transactions and credit risk assessments. Ability to identify good quality credit analysis approaches, assess and address gaps in capability. Strong understanding of the credit assessment requirements and documentation throughout the customer life cycle.
