The Director, Portfolio Management – Business Finance is a senior leadership role within Portfolio Management Business Finance (PM BF). The role leads a team of account managers and is responsible for delivering high-quality credit analysis and portfolio oversight across the customer lifecycle, including complex mid-market transactions. As a senior member of the team, the Director also develops capability, provides leadership to junior team members, and drives continuous improvement in processes, efficiency and customer outcomes.

About you
Strategy
- Assist the National Director with continuous improvement initiatives to support the customer experience, managing customer and portfolio risk.
- Set high standards of practice, aligned to business objectives, deliver and execute against these standards in relation to credit processes, and identify new opportunities for continuous improvement.
Business Leadership and Execution
- Manage the workflow across the team to ensure proximity to customers, flexibility to manage varying customer volumes and efficiency.
- Embrace technology and apply AI responsibly in everyday work to improve efficiency, strengthen decision-making, enhance customer and stakeholder outcomes, and support continuous improvement across portfolio management activities.
- Oversee the credit analysis process focusing on quality credit assessment and enhancing the customer relationship. Develop a sound understanding of what analysis Credit require in credit papers, and ensure these standards are applied across the team.
- Provide support for high-risk, non-performing customers and complex cases, work with Credit and the National Director and Lending Operations to apply workout solutions. Develop team skills in early warning signs of deterioration.
- Work closely with Credit Directors on the quality of credit assessments, ensuring credit memos are well-written and lead to efficient and quality decisions being made, identify capability gaps, and formulate plans to address these.
Portfolio Management
- Lead credit analysis and assessments across the customer lifecycle, from Business Finance handover and onboarding through to variations, renewals, and new transactions for existing or repeat customers. Ensuring assessments are completed in compliance with EFA’s credit policies and procedures and risk appetite, and within appropriate timeframes.
- Work in collaboration with the Business Development, Business Finance team to manage customer interactions and servicing throughout the customer lifecycle, ensure proactive engagement and strong relationships with customers.
- Identify facilities with deteriorating risk profiles, work to ensure appropriate action and early identification of risks is taken to manage the facility, escalate issues and implement loss-minimisation strategies where required.
Work with the Lending Operations team to manage all administrative and operational aspects of the portfolio, including drawdowns, repayments, exposures and covenants. - Ensure internal reporting is monitored on a continual basis to understand movements within the portfolio, arrears reporting, overdue covenants and expiring facilities. Ensure renewals and annual reviews are conducted on time and collaboratively with key stakeholders.
- Partner with Lending Operations to manage the administrative and operational aspects of the portfolio, including drawdowns, repayments, and exposure management.
Qualifications & Skills
- Degree qualifications in Commerce, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, Banking/Finance or Business and/or relevant technical disciplines.
- 10+ years financing experience across business and/or corporate banking or similar. Demonstrated ability to manage a portfolio balancing the interests of customers and the lender.
- Ability to successfully lead, manage and coach a team.
- Ability to manage stakeholders and prioritise activities to achieve successful outcomes.
- Deep understanding of loan structuring and credit risk management across a range of financing products.
- Strong financial analysis skills to assess loan performance and perform stress testing. Proficiency in analysing borrower financial statements, cash flow, collateral values, and repayment capacity.
- Ability to prepare high-quality credit submissions for transactions of increasing complexity. Ability to review and provide feedback and coaching to team members on papers.
- Deep understanding of facility administration including operational risk. Strong understanding of facility and security documentation.
- Strong non-financial risk awareness including KYC and financial crime risks. Ability to proactively identify, assess and mitigate risks
