About you

The Assistant Manager, Payroll supports the efficient, accurate and compliant delivery of payroll services, working under the guidance of the Senior Payroll Manager. The role assists with payroll processing, reporting, reconciliations, employee queries, payroll records and system administration, while escalating complex matters and supporting continuous improvement of payroll processes.

Payroll Processing and Administration

  • Assist with accurate and timely end-to-end payroll processing.
  • Support the operation and maintenance of payroll systems and payroll data.

Payroll Reporting, Reconciliations and Controls

  • Prepare payroll summaries, reports and reconciliations, including earnings, deductions, leave, tax, superannuation and other payroll-related information.
  • Support payroll-related reporting, audit requests and process documentation as required.

Compliance and Records Management

  • Assist with payroll compliance activities, including PAYG, payroll tax, superannuation guarantee, leave obligations, conditions and relevant payroll policies.
  • Maintain payroll files and records in accordance with statutory, audit and organisational requirements.
  • Monitor updates to payroll-related processes, legislation and policies, and support communication of routine changes where required.

Employee and Stakeholder Support

  • Respond to routine payroll enquiries from employees, managers, HR and Finance, providing clear guidance and escalating complex or sensitive matters appropriately.
  • Work collaboratively with HR, Finance and people leaders to resolve routine payroll matters and support employee lifecycle processes.

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • 3 years experience conducting Payroll functions
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Business, Human Resources, Accounting, Finance or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant payroll experience.
  • Payroll qualification, certification or specialist payroll training would be advantageous.
  • Demonstrated experience in payroll administration or payroll processing, preferably within a medium-sized, complex or regulated organisation.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing, employee data changes, payroll checks, reconciliations and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of Australian payroll requirements, including taxation, superannuation, leave, allowances, deductions and employment conditions.
  • Experience using payroll systems, HRIS platforms and Microsoft Excel to maintain data, prepare reports and support payroll accuracy.
  • Intermediate Excel and reporting skills, with the ability to prepare accurate payroll summaries and reconciliations.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain routine payroll matters in plain language.
  • Good customer service and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, managers, HR, Finance and external providers.
  • Experience using Aurion software is desirable.
